Lili's path now entered a thick forest which cut out most of the daylight. This was not an unwelcome change after the dry fire plains, however, for the trees of this forest held many juicy delights which satisfied Lili's now ravenous stomach and parched throat. She plucked a mango and a papaya, a peach and an apricot and a banana and devoured them all hungrily. As the juice from the mango ran down her face and arms, Lili revelled in the sticky sweetness which was surely the best food she had ever tasted. (She stayed far away from the pomegranates, however, for she knew the kind of trouble she could get into from eating one of those in a strange place!)

As Lili plunged deeper into the forest, her path grew as dark as it had been in the Gnomes' underground tunnels. She had no need to sweat the dark this time, however, for, as the ambient light dimmed, the tip of her new wand glowed red with the energy which the Salamanders had worked into it, lighting her way quite adequately, and, true to the Salamander's word, the wand itself seemed to "know" the way to the Undines' home and pulled Lili forcibly in what she now felt confident was the right direction.

Lili's intuition was confirmed when her path met up with a babbling brook which soon grew into a stream and then a hearty river. She followed the river right out of the forest and found herself almost on top of the Undines! This was not altogether a happy sight, however.

Not far beyond the edge of the forest, the river was blocked by a damn. A large tree had fallen across the river, and its branches had become tangled with garbage and other debris which now thoroughly blocked the flow of the river. Lili could see the Undines clearly; watery beings frantically hacking at the intruding damn in an attempt to free their water.

The forest's thick canopy had masked the progression of the sun, which Lili now saw was quite low on the horizon, but she knew immediately what she must do and wasted no time in rushing to help the Undines.

Lili ran out onto the damn and began to hack at the fallen tree's branches with her sword. Footing on top of the damn was precarious, however. Lili tried valiantly to keep her balance, but it was no use. Part of the damn gave way and with it her foothold, and Lili fell screaming to the much lower level beneath the damn.
