"The vortex which your witch opened up to bring that large crowd of faeries through to our world caused a massive disruption. We cannot risk allowing her a leaving spell which could very well be worse."
"But what about her enchanted grove? You said yourself that is causing damage."
"A contained problem," replied the Troll. "I am sorry for your discomfort, but we have this situation under control."
"Then why have you even brought me here?" Amanda was not impressed with the thought that she had hiked all that way through the tunnel and then climbed up this gigantic tree all for nothing.
"I am very sorry for your troubles," said the Troll. "We thought that you might know the way home through the Portal Cave."
"The Portal Cave?" queried Amanda. "What is that?"
"The Portal Cave contains the gateways between this and the other realms; the gateways which are natural to Twilight Tanglewood and therefore do not do our world any harm. You came through the Portal Cave yourself, which is why we thought you might know how to navigate it."
"I fell through a desk!" exclaimed Amanda.
"I have no knowledge of what the Portals look like in other realms," explained the Troll. "My kind are not travellers. We like our Tanglewood. I only know the Portals from our own end."
"Would you show me the Portal Cave?" asked Amanda. "Perhaps I can find the way out."
"I will gladly take you there Left-Foot Right-Foot, but understand this: your hearing acuity will fall off rapidly as we depart the Grand Palace. Communication between us will become difficult once more, but I have told you as much as any Troll knows about the Portals. Once we are there, it will be up to you to find the right one to take you home."
"I understand," said Amanda. "Let's go!"
